week one

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Looking back now almost 13 days to the minute since Randa awoke and her water broke, I want to review that first week of this boys life, before reviewing the second.

Recovery started well with R on her feet after 24 hours. Isaac slept with me the first night which freaked out the night nurse, but was great fun for us. R had lots of annoying monitors and not the best bed for him that first night. So in addition to skin to skin soon after birth I got to bond even more with him through the night. I felt plenty guilty then, but by day two he knew who had the good stuff.

R’s sis Paula flew in Tuesday and was a great help. Having your own personal mom-baby nurse / wonder-aunt to help is definitely recommended.

After two and a half days in the hospital the three of us headed home with the help of P. I and R were both doing really well, recovering and progressing nicely eating, pooping, sleeping, etc.

Isaac got pretty hungry while working through the colostrum for a few days and became a sucking maniac, I resorted to a pacifier fairly quickly though attempted not to let him get too confused.

By Friday he had dropped to 6lb 3oz (~10%) just toeing the line enough to get us a trip to the lactation nurse at the hospital to weigh, feed then weigh again. While there, he had his first real milk burp. It had finally come! The next stage had begun. We went in again on Sunday and he was already up 6 oz.

My mother replaced Paula on Saturday and lent a very helpful hand until Monday when we began week two. Just the three of us.

inspiration

So I’ve been working late nights these past two weeks processing an amazing amount of images for a wedding I shot at the beginning of the month.

It’s been a rough week, not rough like I’m having a bad time or I’m working too much, but rough in the sense that, we’re on the cusp, week 39 is coming to an end.

Every little thing I do has an air of tying up the loose ends on a life that will be intensely different shortly.

It’s a welcome change but stress is a constant. From what I’ve been told I’m about to enter into the time warp and before I know it our unborn son will be ten and soon thereafter twenty.

With that in mind I came across this image from the wedding and found a bit of allegory in it.

I hope it finds you well, good night.

quick note

Monday, January 18th, 2010

so it’s been a bit crazy trying to get everything organized to ready our lives for the baby, hence no blogging. I have been doing some recording of favorite songs for Tim’s blog, so be sure to give a listen and maybe throw one together of your own.

on again

Hey! It’s nice when feeling unproductive to come across a bunch of things I never shared. Now that I think about it, I actually have been photographing in the last month, I just haven’t looked at any of the images, eventually maybe. I’m taking a better camera with me on mountain bike rides now, so maybe someday you’ll see what comes of that.

whistle blower

Some images are best left without captions.

Talking to R tonight about this blog. She suggested that I might share more stories, perhaps work on my writing as well as possibly gaining in viewers. I’ve always shied away from this model instead going self-serving and obtuse with posts. Every time I write about my thoughts on life and photography I end up editing it for 3 hours until I finally cut edit it out. Boring and trite words never seem to go with the image. But what does?

2 years

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

I’ve just realized it’s been 2 years of this thing. Congrats blog! a belated anniversary of sorts. 460 posts, that’s pretty insane! 487 spam comments too, hurray!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I like the idea of waiting around for comments/complaints before posting.
Feb is not a big month for me. This is probably the best reason to try and keep myself busy, but alas, no.

We got a nice new car. Only 90K miles

I watched The War. Our library is awesome.

We played DDR for 6 hours on Friday. We were sore.

I taught myself to use the knitting machine this weekend. Test piece… wool undies. Our library is awesome.

Tomorrow I just may bake my first successful sourdough. After the last two attempts failed, if it needs three days to rise I’ll give it three days.

I’m in no hurry.

2007

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I just asked my computer how much memory I have shot this year so far… the answer 531.18 gb. That is pretty good, but I’m still not satisfied.

ps. check out the weird covers over at tim’s.

malfunction

So my hope is no one noticed the horrible issue the main site was having this last week. Fortunately for me, I have a top notch dude to help me out when times get rough and I’m away from the internet. I hope no one was inconvenienced by this.

Also there is a new wedding site brewing. Check it out and tell me how to make it awesome as it evolves into something more worth a glance.

love Josh

excuses

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

My days have been filled with other pursuits lately, and the site has not been living up to it’s name. I will get back to it shortly but for the next week or two posting will remain spotty.

The other pursuits? I am currently planning to separate the wedding site from the rest of the work in order to kick the wedding work up a notch and to have a more concentrated effort for editorial clients too. I’ve been running lately, which feels very strange. R has put together a relay team with her family for next week’s Tussey Mountainback and I’ll be running two legs. I’ve also have a west coast trip and wedding coming up and a couple other weddings in various stages of the process.

All in all I am very excited about all of this I’m just not shooting as much as I would hope, but that’s usually the case.

I hope this finds you well.
