Day One
So today was long and started early. In fact it started yesterday morning for me.
R had two hours sleep and I had none when her water broke at 12:40 am. Things progressed smoothly, until they didn’t, we were both exhausted and made the choice for pain relief for a little rest, but the slippery slope soon led us to more interventions, complications, a big scare then an emergency c-section.
My brain wasn’t really functioning as I was 90 percent asleep when the C was called, definitely the chaos that ensued was one of the scariest experiences of my life. I felt completely powerless and until they got Isaac’s heart rate stabilized, which took a millenia of 2 minutes, I was not aloud in the OR.
I was in shock after that. I had some fun with Isaac but was nowhere near okay until we got back to Randa. They are both doing well now, and after a day or two more here at the hospital we’ll get to go home.

Oh Josh, Dan can totally relate to your shock. That is what happened to us 17 years ago. Emergency C. I’m so glad you all are ok and Isaac is just beautiful. Well, should I say handsome. He will prefer that in his later years. Tell Randa I love her and god bless. I’m sure she will recover as quickly as myself and will be up and around in no time.

I’ve been thinking about you guys and wondering what was happening. What a nightmare it must have been for your both - but the ending is a dream come true - a precious baby boy. Dear Josh, Randa and Issac,
Greetings from the Mortensen household. Issac is quite beautiful! After a labor and an emergency c-section very much like you described I remember getting home around midnight, it was a crisp, clear January night in Lincoln, nebraska. I sipped a Miller Highlife and ate a burrito out on the porch.

I thought about you guys at the Crack O’ Dawn 5K this year, as you near your 5th anniversary, that you shared your wedding day with us by racing the 5K that morning.
